Graduate Certificate Program Admissions and Applications

Admission Requirements

Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
Students' transcripts and schedules must reflect that they have already completed (or will complete in the current semester) six (6) hours of within their graduate discipline or undergraduate major that are relevant to Latin American and Caribbean studies. These courses may, but need not, come from the list of approved courses for the Certificate. Please note that these six hours will not count towards the graduate certificate.
Students must have language competency at least through the intermediate level in Spanish or Portuguese. Other languages spoken in the region will be considered; students should consult the program advisor. Proof of completion of the foreign language requirement can be provided by coursework or a pass in a proficiency interview.

Graduate Student Application

The graduate student application should be submitted during the first year of graduate level work. Graduate students should send the following materials to the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Curriculum as an application for the Certificate Program:

Cover letter
Copy of their graduate transcripts (to date)
Copy of their current course schedule
Proof of completion of foreign language requirement

Undergraduate Student Application

Undergraduate students wishing to complete a graduate certificate may do so provided that they pay graduate level tuition for courses numbered above 5000. If students want those ours to count towards their bachelor's degree, the student must indicate this when requesting permission to take graduate coursework. Upon completing sixty (60) semester hours of coursework, undergraduate students should send the following application materials to the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Curricular Track:

Cover letter
Copy of their undergraduate transcripts (to date)
Copy of their current course schedule
Proof of completion of foreign language requirement.
